David

Chief Executive Officer

David’s professional background merges real-world experience in trading with an academic study of artificial intelligence and technology, and their applications to the financial industry. He holds two degrees from MIT, one in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from the School of Engineering and one in Finance from the Sloan School of Management. After graduating MIT at the age of 19, David gained extensive experience working as a hybrid trader-engineer, architecting high frequency systems from conception to production and then trading on them with multiple strategy types across a range of markets. Under his leadership, DWC became a leading financial technology consultancy with a global client base. Now Neurensic is pioneering industry-first surveillance and operational technologies. Above all, David prides himself on being a technological visionary and product innovator, utilizing the company’s unique capabilities in trading, quantitative engineering, and high-performance computing to solve the most challenging regulatory compliance and business intelligence problems for the trading industry and beyond.

Mike

Chief Revenue Officer

Michael Cavanaugh moved to Chicago after graduating from the University of Wisconsin. He worked on the floor of the CBOT and proceeded to the learn the business from the bottom up, in the fast paced world of the open outcry trading pits. Like many, Mike became passionate about the markets. Upon his exit from the floor, Michael embarked upon the business from the buy side and founded an asset management company which is known today as RCM Wealth Advisors. In Q4 of 2016, Michael made the decision to join neurensic and to leverage his years of B2B sales experience and business acumen to assist in the growth of the company.

Cliff

Chief Technology Officer

Cliff Click is the CTO of Neurensic, and before that the CTO and Co-Founder of h2o.ai, the makers of H2O an open source math and machine learning engine for Big Data. Cliff wrote his first compiler when he was 15 (Pascal to TRS Z-80!), although Cliff’s most famous compiler is the HotSpot Server Compiler (the Sea of Nodes IR). That compiler showed the world that JIT’d high quality code was possible, and was at least partially responsible for bringing Java into the mainstream. Cliff helped Azul Systems build an 864 core pure-Java mainframe that keeps GC pauses on 500Gb heaps to under 10ms, and worked on all aspects of that JVM. Cliff is invited to speak regularly at industry and academic conferences and has published many papers about HotSpot technology. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Rice University and about 20 patents.

Paul

Chief Operating Officer

Paul brings a special combination of technical engineering and strategic business development skills to the firm, through his background as both senior electronic systems engineer and financial technology entrepreneur. He holds a B.S. and M.S. from Johns Hopkins University in Electrical Engineering, and spent over seven years in the defense industry at Northrop Grumman Corporation, building technology systems and electronic devices for classified government surveillance projects. As co-founder of PeopleHedge Corporation, an FX international payments and hedging technology startup, Paul also brings years of experience in relationship management, financial engineering, and product design as part of Chicago’s rapidly growing FinTech community. Currently Paul is actively building Neurensic’s customer and relationship network, while shaping its product development strategy around the needs of that customer base.
